Description: Cute little Rhea, spawns her giant sword and fights with Demons in a hell-like environment.

I was the artist for this game. I designed and draw: The Main Cutesy character & her sword, 3 Demon characters, 3 Environments and Projectiles such as skulls and candies. I also made sprite animations for all 4 characters.

It was a fun challenge to design a contrast between the cute main character and the rest of the gory world. It was also fun to come up with color-schemes.

The Candy Time:

The “Candy Time” is a bullet-time mechanism which slows time in the game and gives Rhea more chance to dodge the bullets and attack the Demons.

When the player uses Candy Time, the game clock also slows down therefore the players do not lose time while using Candy Time.

Candy Time uses a resource bar which fills with time.

The Ricochet System:

Rhea can slay the bullets and the Demons with her sword. However, these are not the only actions that she can do with it! If she calculates the time correctly and waits until the skull-shaped bullets touches her sword’s candy part, she can reflect the bullets as candies. Some types of Demons can only be killed with candies, and they are immune to sword attacks.

Character Design:

When we started this project and had our first meeting, I showed some of my previous drawings to my teammates. After they saw various types of styles that I worked on, we decided the style of one of the drawings, which is also my logo image for this website. Then I started on some concept drawings of Rhea with that drawing style. After establishing the look of her, I moved on to the Demons.

I wanted to design the Demons as a set. By that I mean, although they are in different shapes and sizes, I wanted them to look related.

We needed one patrolling, one chasing and one stationary demon.

After all 3 Demons are done, we realized that we still had some time for one more enemy. I merged the 3 Demons and created “the Boss Demon” which appears at the very end of the game. We were happy with how 3 Demons merged together.

The Game-play:

Fun-fact: Bloody Cute is considered as the Dark Souls of the VFS Arcade games. This 2-minute game-play video took 14 minutes of playing and more than 30 deaths. The record finish time of Bloody Cute is 32 seconds so far.
